This Week In Swim Vol VIII: Rounding Into Form

    Why Hello There,

It is another busy week for the Army Navy swim team, but first, a quick look back at the (very) successful week that was.

We started off with a little delay on Tuesday before stepping up and soundly defeating Kenwood in their home pool by a score of 291-195. It was a solid win over the likely 3rd place team in the division this season. Next we marched back out to Columbia for Relays on Thursday evening. We avoided the storms and any slow swims. Kids showed up ready to swim! Two-thirds of all splits were best times, we won 7 and finished top 3 in all but 4 of the 22 events. Special recognition goes out to our 15-18 Girls 200 Free Relay (Maddie Latcovich, Kate Douglas, Katie McDonald, and Haley Lehman) and Girls Crescendo Relay (Ruth Wilson, Ainsley Lehman, Haley Lehman, McKinley Busen, and Madison Hassan) who both broke the CCSDA league records on Thursday. Our coaches also swam a relay...

All in all that ended with us pulling down the first A Division Relay championship that I can remember (and, as I am sure your swimmers will tell you, I am quite old and happen to have quite a good memory). Congrats to all the swimmers and team members that came out to cheer on their teammates. It was a big win and something to be proud of for sure.

Ok, so a busy week coming up with two A meets on Tuesday and Thursday, poster making on Friday, a 10&U developmental meet on Saturday, and a food drive running through the week to boot. In addition we move into Championship SZN starting next week. It is imperative that all swimmers' availability has been marked for Divisionals, SuperNoVa, and Champs by the end of this week to ensure that the coaches are able to put together the best possible lineups to continue our winning ways. Thank you in advance!

Now on to the week at hand:

    AFAC Food Drive

The annual AFAC food drive, run by our 15-18s, is happening this week. Swim families are encouraged to participate as this year we have added a little competitive aspect to the charitable festivities. Each swim age group, Junior Team, and Sports camp will compete to see who can gather the most donations. Swimmers can bring their donations in to swim practice or the home meet on Thursday and drop them in the designated bin for their age group (8 & unders, 9-12 year olds, and 13 & overs). The winning group has the chance to win a Fun Friday prize! We encourage everyone to bring in as many donations as they are able, and for more information, please see the attached flyer. We are looking forward to another successful food drive in what has become a wonderful senior tradition for the Army Navy swim community.

'A' Swim Meet @ Columbia CC -- Tuesday, July 15th

Warm Ups: 5:25PM -- Meet Start: 6:00PM -- Meet Theme: Jersey

We make our third trek out to Columbia again on Tuesday, but this time as a full team! Columbia is the newcomer to A division this season and would love to play spoilers, but if they come at the champ, they best not miss! In reality, they won't put up too much of a fight, but it's another chance to solidify our dominance. Please make sure your swimmers' availability has been marked by this (Sunday) evening. No buffet, but Columbia's Market snack bar will be open throughout and after the meet. Please make sure to check back in on the volunteer positions. We have added new spots based on Columbia's specific requests so there are now openings when everything was full earlier this week.

'A' Meet vs. Congressional -- Thursday, July 17th

Warm Up: 5:15PM -- Meet Start: 6:00PM -- Theme: Tropical

Thursday night is finally a home meet as Congressional travels across the bridge to meet us. If you remember back a little over a year Congressional handed us a dual meet defeat to start our A division schedule last summer. So we are coming for a little revenge this time around. With this being our last home dual meet we will also be celebrating Senior Night for our graduating seniors. In between warm ups and the start of the meet there will be a ceremony for our 7 graduating seniors. So make sure to be there to send them off with an Army Navy cheer.

Entries will close Tuesday night, so please make sure to mark your swimmers' availability now.

    Jammies & Jammers Mini-Meet -- Saturday, July 19th

    Warm Ups: 7:30AM -- Meet Start: 8:10AM

Saturday morning we will have another chance for the tiny people to get some swims in. Unlike Duckies & Donuts this one will be at the Arlington Olympic Pool. Please make sure events have been chosen for your swimmer prior to Wednesday night at midnight. After that point entries will close. Swimmers should only enter events in which they have not placed top 3 in at a dual meet already this season.

Swimmers should dress for comfort and wear their Jammies for the meet. The vibes will be chill with only Army Navy swimmers involved and we should be done well before 10:00AM. So book that 11:00AM tee time with confidence.

    Fun Friday - Poster Making

After practice for all swimmers from 8:45-10AM the fun Friday activity will be poster making to help everyone get hype for Divisionals, SuperNoVa, and Champs meets in the coming weeks. 8&unders can make a poster for their favorite big kid and vice versa. A patented ANCC House treat will be provided to keep the energy levels high. All craft accoutrements will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you want to add a special touch.

Again, please make sure that availability for Divisionals, SuperNoVa, and Champs has been notated this week. These meets all need entries to be finalized earlier than our regular dual meets and with Divisionals and SuperNoVa on back to back nights we will not have the ability to make last minute changes.

We are looking forward to another fantastic week of Army Navy swimming!

    From the Deck,

    Coach Ian
