This Week in Swim Vol IV: Set The Alarm

    Good Evening Natantes,

Hopefully everyone has recovered from our dalliance with the meaner side of Mother Nature Friday night. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help us get through most of the meet. It was a really exciting start and we cannot wait to ramp up the next two weeks.  A lot to get to this week with a new practice schedule, two meets, and our first Fun Friday.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Full Practice Schedule

We move to our full summer practice schedule this week. We will keep this schedule from now through the end of the season. As a reminder, here it is:

    Monday - Thursday

    8:30-10:00AM -- 13&O swimmers (+11-12 year round swimmers)

    10:00-11:00AM -- 9-12 year old swimmers (+8&U swimmers with 4 legal strokes)

    11:00-11:45AM -- 8&U swimmers

    Monday and Wednesday

4:00-5:00PM -- All Ages (for those who cannot make mornings)

    Friday

8:45-10:00AM -- Combined Fun Friday practice for the whole team

Please keep to these groupings. The coaches will assess throughout the season and let you know if there is any need to switch from one practice to the other.

    Meet Sign Ups

With two meets this week, this is a good chance to remind or introduce everyone to a couple of rules to follow and things to avoid when signing up for meets.  As those in attendance Friday night saw we are a big team and also a very deep team. For this reason, in addition to common courtesy, it is imperative that you sign up for meets by the deadlines. That way coaches can work on exhibition heats and find the most swims for our swimmers. More important than signing up even, is making sure that you do not sign up and then no-show. When we bring big rosters to meets with other teams and then have a bunch of empty lanes, that is not a good look. It also takes away the opportunity for someone to swim. So please make sure that you hare committed when you sign up to come.

Tuesday, June 17th -- B Meet @ Chevy Chase Club

Warm Up: 6:00PM - Meet Start: 6:30PM --- Theme: Superheroes

We travel out to Chevy Chase Club on Tuesday evening for our dual meet. This is a B meet. Normally that would mean that swimmers will not enter events they have placed in, but we have not had a full meet yet, so that rule is hard to follow. We may have to adjust some of the lineups you have put in to make sure we are not overloading the meet timeline.

Sign ups will remain open until 4:00PM today. So there is still time. We are still in need of 4 timers. If you are planning on being there please consider volunteering. We take pride in other teams not having to make a call for volunteers for our meets and I hope that those slots will be filled in no time.

Chevy will have their snack bar open during the meet and will also be offering a buffet dinner option for families as well. If you have not been there, Chevy's parking situation is not quite as expansive as ours at Army Navy. So do consider carpooling where possible.

Thursday, June 19th -- B Meet vs. Belle Haven CC and Montgomery CC

    Warm Up: 5:15PM - Meet Start: 6:00PM --- Theme: 80s/Neon

We have another B meet on Thursday, this time on home turf. It is a nice way to start the season and make sure everyone gets a good number of swims in before we start rolling through our A division schedule. Sign ups for the meet will close at 8:00PM Tuesday evening so that coaches can get to work on the lineup as soon as our meet ends on Tuesday night. Please make sure to get your entries in if you plan to swim. Once you get your entries in grab your legwarmers and loud leotards for our 80s/Neon theme. Always one of my favorites.

Same as with the Chevy meet on Tuesday, there may be some adjustments to the entries you have entered for your swimmer to ensure that we maintain a reasonable timeline for the meet. We look to be covered for volunteer positions for Thursday already which is wonderful. Thank you all.

There will be a diner-themed buffet at the meet beginning at 7:00PM and remaining open until 30 minutes after the meet ends. You can register now to save you time and help the club with numbers to that they can better serve you.

Friday, June 20th -- Cap Decorating Fun Friday

After our full team practice from 8:45-10:00AM swimmers can head up to the Dive Inn deck for some cap decorating fun. All the decorating supplies will be provided, all your swimmer will need is their Army Navy cap to decorate! (Be on the lookout for shirt/cap distributions this week if you did not get yours last Thursday).

In addition to decorating, the club will also have a dirt cup pudding snack for all the decorators to enjoy while they work.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting into our first regularly scheduled week means it really is summertime and we cannot wait. As we head into the holiday weekend please note that the meet entry sign ups for Tuesday, June 24th's meet with Washington Golf will close on Saturday. So please make sure to get those in by the end of the day Friday. Looking forward to another great week of Army Navy Swim Team.

    From the Deck,

    Coach Ian
