This Week in Swim Vol II: The First Full Week

    Good Evening Swimmers and Swammers,

Welcome to week two. Not too much going on as we get everyone back in the water for practice. No changes or events this week, so take the time to go ahead and give a follow to the ANCC Swim Team Instragram account: @ANCCswim. Also, you should have all received an email from Wendy Wilson this past week with information on team suits, caps, and shirts along with some other reminders. If you have any questions about those items please reference her email. There looks to be some better weather this week hopefully, which brings me to our first note:

    Weather

Hopefully it won't be necessary this week, but if you are not already, you should be signed up for text alerts from ANCC Aquatics. It is the best way to stay up to date with what is going on at the pools all summer. All closings or changes to the Aquatics schedule will be texted out prior to anything else. You can sign up by texting "ANCCAQUATICS" to 38316.

Obviously if the pools are closed then our practices (or any other Aquatics event) would be cancelled. Generally, if the pools are open then all practices are on as scheduled. We will always send out an email immediately if a practice is cancelled or changed for any reason. You do not need to call the Aquatics front desk or email the coaches. If you have not heard anything from us you can safely assume that practice is going to happen.

    Practice Reminders

Please make sure that your swimmer has a water bottle and their own towel for swim team practices. Swim team members will not be able to get a towel while they are at the pool for practice. In addition, please make sure that you or your swimmer are checking in at the front desk prior to coming down for swim practice. While the pools are open we do need to have every member check in prior to entering the pools.

This is a reminder that practice attendance is not mandatory and will not affect your standing on the team. Obviously we would love to have everyone at practice as much as possible. The more your swimmer attends practice and Swim Team events the more they will get in return throughout the season. It is helpful for coaches to know about long absences from practice (over a week) due to camps, vacation, etc... But there is no need to let us know about day-to-day practice attendance. We will work under the assumption that if your swimmer is not at practice they likely have a good reason.

Finally, as we get everyone back in the water, or in with us for the first time, over the next couple weeks, I wanted to pass along one small request from the coaching staff. If you have any information about your child that would be able to help us provide the best level of coaching for your child specifically, sharing that information with the coaching staff can be very beneficial. This would be information, for example, that would be shared with your child's teacher. All of our Swim Team coaches are teachers and are used to working with a myriad of different learning styles. It is always easier for us to have that information beforehand than figuring it out in the moment.

That's all for this week. So get your sign ups for meet entries and volunteer spots done now while you have the time. No need to wait until the deadlines. Next week will have our first meet and we will truly be off and running.

    From the Deck,

    Coach Ian
