This Week In Swim Vol IX: The Appetizer

    Good Evening Everyone,

We fought hard on Tuesday night against Washington Golf losing a close matchup, but the coaching staff came away with a team we could be proud of. We have two more chances to unseat Washington Golf at Divisionals this Tuesday at their place and then at Champs in our pool next week. There was some good news from Tuesday's meet as well. There were two team records set at the Washington Golf meet on Tuesday. Charlie Greenwood took down Henry Levi's Boys 18&U 100 IM record set just last year with a time of 1:00.86. That marks the second 18&U IM record to go down this summer since Kate Douglas erased Katie Bennett from the board with her 1:07.13 100IM against Kenwood. The other record from Tuesday night was also Charlie's, but this was not quite as recent. Charlie broke Billy Jarrett's record from 1991 in the Boys 18&U 50 butterfly with a time of 26.64. In a fun small-world anecdote, Billy Jarrett was one of Charlie's dad's training partners back in the day when he swam club in Northern Virginia back in the late 20th century. Congratulations Charlie!

We will have a short run this week with a much larger Champs email to come before Friday. So be on the lookout for that. Speaking of Champs, please make sure you have marked your swimmers' availability for our Champs meet next Monday (prelims) and Tuesday (finals) July 29th and 30th. Both events will be daytime schedules and only swimmers that are marked as available will be chosen for the lineup. We will still be on our regular practice schedule this week. There will be no changes to our regularly scheduled programming all week.

A Division Championship Meet (Divisionals) @ Washington Golf -- Tuesday, July 23rd

    Warm Up -- 5:00PM          Meet Start -- 6:00PM        Theme -- All Business

Please see attached for the lineup for Tuesday night's Divisionals meet. This starts our championship season culminating with CCSDA Champs next week. Divisionals will be a meet between the A Division teams (Congressional, Kenwood, Norbeck, Washington Golf, and Army Navy). Each team may enter two scoring swimmers in each event plus one exhibition entry with the same individual entry rules as a regular dual meet. This will be a raucous evening with some great fast swimming. There are a limited number of swimmers in the meet. As with Divisional Relays, all swimmers are welcome, and encouraged, to attend and cheer on their teammates whether they are entered in the meet or not.

The theme for Tuesday will be All Business. Come dressed to do work! That means your best business attire. Toss those cap and goggles into a briefcase, cinch up your tie, and get yourself to the pool deck to finish the job. We've got work to do and we are going to look the part.

SuperNoVa @ Belle Haven -- Thursday, July 25th

We do not yet have the full meet information from Belle Haven on this one yet, but the assumption would be a warm up time of 5:45PM and a meet start at 6:30PM.

SuperNoVa will be open to swimmers who are not entered in Divisionals or Champs and will include all individual events plus the wet t-shirt relays and kickboard relays in place of the medley and free relays. SuperNoVa is always a great fun sort of B Meet championship and is open to all swimmers to join us and help in our wet t-shirt relay dominance. Belle Haven does a great job hosting opening the pool afterward and opening up their tiki bar for a buffet and fun following the meet. We hope to see many of you there!

Sign ups for the meet will be closed Wednesday at noon. The theme for SuperNoVa will be Christmas in July.

    Fun Friday

We will have Fun Friday practice from 8:45-10AM. We will share a treat provided by Wendy and the club staff after practice, but there will be no activity to follow practice on Friday.

Looking further down the road, the club has provided the registration for the Swim Team Banquet on Friday, August 2nd. This is a dressy event in the ballroom of the clubhouse where we will present age group, team, and fun awards, the seniors will say their goodbyes, and we will have the annual slideshow of course. You must have a registration to be able to attend and we do have a cap on the number of attendees we can allow. So make sure to get your spot reserved.

As I mentioned, be on the lookout for a Champs email with everything you need to know as we host the biggest event in the CCSDA this summer next Monday and Tuesday. Once we get through Divisionals I will work through the Champs lineup and get that out to everyone on Thursday.

    From the Deck,

    Coach Ian
