This Week In Swim Vol V: A Week In Full
Good Evening Swim Fans,
We come to our first full week of the season with meets on both Tuesday and Thursday nights. Both meets are 'A' meets which means that we are a little more limited in the number of events/heats we will run throughout each night. The Congressional lineup for Tuesday is mostly finished so you can check your swimmers' entries now. Please make sure to let the coaches know as soon as there are any change in plans. It is not acceptable to sign up for a meet and no-show. We can usually make some changes up to a certain point, to letting us know earlier versus later would be hugely beneficial and ensure that we do not have any empty lanes and do not have to scratch any relays.
It looks to be a VERY hot week. Please make sure your swimmers are getting some time in the AC each day as the sun looks to be quite oppressive. On Tuesday and Thursday especially please make sure that your swimmers take some time at home to cool off prior to the meets those evenings. Here's looking forward to our first full week and all that it brings:
Kenwood Meet Sign Up Deadline -- Tuesday @ 5:00PM
Please make sure to have marked your swimmers' availability for Thursday's meet with Kenwood by Tuesday night. The coaches will begin working on the lineup for Thursday immediately after the conclusion of the Congressional meet on Tuesday night, so it is imperative that we have all availability marked by then.
Tuesday, June 25th -- A Meet @ Congressional CC -- 5:45PM Warm Up -- 6:30PM Start
Our first A meet of the year takes us across the river to Congressional. We have started out our 'regular' season with Congressional for the last two years. It always provides some great races and friendly competition. The meet will start at 6:30PM and our warm ups will start at 5:45PM. Please make sure your swimmer is on deck and ready to go by 5:40PM.
Congressional will have their Pavilion open throughout the meet and up until 9:30PM serving sandwiches, flatbreads, snacks and other sundry goods. The Stone Bar will also remain open until 9:30PM for all your adult beverage needs.
The theme for Tuesday night will be Top Gun so get your aviators and bomber jackets out and get ready to feel the need..the need for speed.
Thursday, June 27th -- A Meet vs. Kenwood CC -- 5:15PM Warm Up, 6:10PM Start
On Thursday we return home to the friendly confines of Army Navy for our home meet versus Kenwood. As mentioned above, please make sure that availability is marked for this meet by Tuesday night so that we can get the lineup set as soon as possible. Kenwood is normally our closest meet of the year and this year portends to be more of the same. We will need to make sure everyone is ready to roll on Thursday night. Make sure your swimmer is on deck and ready by 5:10PM so that we can start warm ups and, by extension, the meet on time.
The Dive Inn will be open to start the meet and we will have a buffet that will open at 7:00PM. Buffet Menu and Sign Up Link.
The theme for Thursday night is Neon/80s. It's one of my favorites so you can be sure the coaches will be decked out. Pull out the scrunchies and legwarmers, find some bright clothing, and come ready to rock!
Fun Friday
Another week brings another Fun Friday. We will have a full team practice from 8:45-10:00AM followed by team-themed spirit bracelet making with a sweet treat accompaniment.
It is going to be a hot one. So be on the lookout for heat indexes and rolling thunder storms throughout the week. Looking forward we will have a light week for the holiday next week with no meets. We will still be practicing through the week with the day off for 4th of July, but we will practice through the rest of the week. Please make sure to get your availability in for the July 9th Relay Championship meet so that we can work on that lineup throughout the holiday week.
From the Deck,
Coach Ian
