This Week In Swim Vol IV: Fireworks and Relays
Good Evening Americans,
We've reached that all-important midpoint of the season. Once we reach 4th of July week it's all downhill from there. We have made it through 3 dual meets and a B meet/Squirt Gun. After this week we have two dual meets (one A, one B), Divisionals, SuperNoVa, and Champs still left. Please take the time to mark your availability for each of these to make things easier as we progress through the back half of the season. All of these will be evening meets except for the CCSDA Champs on Monday and Tuesday, July 24th and 25th. Those two days of meets will start in the morning.
Before we get into the week ahead, a little look back. We managed to squeak by Kenwood on Tuesday 245-240. There were a lot of close races that did not go our way. We were 2-9 on races for top 3 spots decided by less than 0.2. It was not our best showing race-wise, but a good building block as we get ready for bigger meets ahead. We will work on those finishes and hope to do better going forward. The nice thing to know is that even our off nights we can still take down a good Kenwood team. The smoke kept us in on Thursday night, but everyone was able to get in swims on Saturday morning. Thank you to all the volunteers who showed up on short notice to help get us through that meet before noon.
Now for some stats!
Our top three age groups remains the same, but there is a new leader this week:
1). 12&U Boys pulled ahead with a point differential of 104-31
2). 18&U Boys move down, but still a dominant 97-35
3). 18&U Girls remain in the 3 spot at 98-37
The ladies have extended their overall lead over the boys to 378-346 on the season aggregate.
Now onto 4th of July week:
Practice Schedule
We will have regular practice on Monday, Thursday, and Friday this week. There will be no practice on Tuesday as the club prepares for the 4th of July festivities. Wednesday we will hold just the afternoon practice from 4-5PM. There will be no morning practices on Wednesday the 5th.
A Division Relay Champs, Thursday, July 6th @ Bethesda CC
WarmUp: 5:15PM -- Start: 6:30PM -- Theme: USA!
Divisional Relays will be our only meet of the week on Thursday evening. This will also be the smallest group that we will take to any meet this summer. The lineups have been entered into Swimtopia, so your swimmer will be entered if they are swimming on Thursday. Even though only a small contingent of swimmers compete at Relays, this is also probably the most fun meet of the season from a vibe standpoint. All relays makes for some great races, a boisterous crowd, and a short meet. The meet will be over well before 8PM (if the weather doesn't decide to butt in) and Bethesda will have a DJ dance and buffet for afterward. We strongly encourage all ANCC swimmers to attend even if they are not swimming to help add to our crew on deck. Fun will be had by all.
Fun Friday
We will have our regular Fun Friday practice from 8:45-10AM. Please try to have your swimmer on deck by 8:45AM. It is difficult to mesh swimmers in throughout the practice especially if we are doing anything with preordained teams (such as relays). After practice we will have our Tie Dye day. Bring your 2023 Army Navy Swim Team shirt or grab an old one and give it a little hippie style. The club will provide donuts to the swimmers while they work on their shirts.
Dive Inn Deck
This is a message I usually put out every season, but even more importantly now with our new digs. The membership at-large has not done a great job keeping our new pool areas clean and tidy so far this season. My expectation for our swimmers is that we hold ourselves to higher standards than the rest of the membership using the pools. As the group who uses the pool every day, go above and beyond and be an example to everyone by cleaning up your food, trash, and other snack-accoutrement when you are done eating on the Dive Inn Deck. All this cool new space doesn't do us much good if it's covered in straw wrappers and ketchup.
Meet Entry Deadlines
Here are some upcoming entry deadlines. Please make sure to have your swimmers' availability marked (either 'Attending' or 'Not Attending') by these dates:
-Friday, July 7th for the Chevy Chase B Meet on July 11th
-Tuesday, July 11th for the Washington Golf A Meet on July 13th
-Thursday, July 13th for the A Division Championships on July 18th.
Thank you everyone and I look forward to seeing many of you on deck on Tuesday for the 4th!
From the Deck,
Coach Ian
