Dive Meet Info from Coach Anita
June 18th
Our first dive meet of the season is Monday, June 19th at ANCC. Our team gets to warm up from 5-5:30, and then I would like to talk to all the divers in a group. At our warm up, divers usually just do one of each dive. The other team gets to warm up from 5:30-6, with the meet starting at 6.
8-unders do two dives… a front dive plus one other dive. They may do standing dives in dual meets. If an 8-under cannot do those dives, they may dive “exhibition” and while they will still have two turns, they may use jumps.
Our league uses required dives (front dive, back dive or back fall off, reverse dive, inward dive, and front dive with 1/2 twist) and optional dives, which involve flipping in any of the directions just mentioned. Any required dive that was not used already may also be used as an optional. All divers over the age of 8 must do an approach with 3 or more steps plus a hurdle.
10-unders do three dives…one required dive and two Optionals. If they cannot do enough dives, they may dive “exhibition” and while they will still have three turns, jumps are allowed.
12-unders do four dives…two required dives and two Optionals. If they cannot do enough dives, they may dive “exhibition.”
14-unders do five dives…three required and two Optionals. If they cannot do enough dives, they may dive “exhibition.”
18-unders do six dives…three requireds and three Optionals. If they cannot do enough dives, they may dive “exhibition.”
At the end of the season, we have a championship meet. A diver must compete in at least 3 dual meets to be eligible. We are allowed 2 divers in each event, and all divers must do one additional dive at the championship meet. At champs, 8-unders must do an approach with three or more steps, and a hurdle.
Looking forward to a fun meet!!
Anita
