This Week in Swim Vol VII: Rounding Into Form

Good Evening Nomadic Tribes of Army Navy,

I hope everyone had a restful, rainy Saturday. It is time to delve into the myriad exploits of ANCC for the dog days of summer. But first, a look back! We have reached the halfway point of our season. It has been a steady improvement through each meet and each week. We had an incredible meet on Thursday evening at Divisional Relays. Thank you to everyone who showed up, both to swim and to cheer on the team, because the rowdiness paid off. Army Navy finished 2nd in the meet edging out Congressional with some big swims in the crescendo relays. I have splits on every race throughout the meet and Army Navy swimmers split over 70% best times throughout the meet. I appreciate this stat so much because I love a group of swimmers who want to swim faster for a relay team than they do for just themselves. So I know we, as a team, are just rounding into form for the week ahead and the rest of the season.

    Meet Sign Ups

This is a reminder that you do not need to wait until the deadline to mark your participation. You can go through and mark 'Attending' or 'Not Attending' for all meets right now if you already know. This helps the coaching staff in putting together lineups. Thank you for your help.

Please make sure to make your availability known for the Manor meet by 11:00AM tomorrow. We will be working on the lineup and want to be able to know where we may need some extra heats.

Availability for the Kenwood meet will need to be in by the end of the Manor meet on Tuesday. The coaches will begin working on the Kenwood lineup immediately after the meet.

    'A' Dual Meet @ Manor -- Tuesday, July 12th

    The Pilgrimage

Our meet with Manor will begin at 6:30PM and we will begin our warm up at 5:50PM. The trip out to Manor is a long one for sure. Please be sure to plan accordingly and arrive prior to 5:40PM at the very least. Many families like to head up to Rockville earlier in the afternoon to beat the traffic to see a movie or just hang out. Manor will make their pool available to Army Navy swim team members at 5PM if you do head out early.

    Volunteers

We are still looking to fill most of our volunteer positions for this meet. If you have not hopped on deck for a meet yet to volunteer, this is a good meet to try a different viewing point. Manor is known to pass out free drink tickets to volunteers throughout the meet. So if bribery is what you're after, this is your time to shine!

    Sustenance

Manor will have their snack bar open for drink and food service throughout the meet and a buffet meal on the Manor Pavilion overlooking the pool. In addition the famous Manor pizza ovens will be firing from 7PM on. Manor does a great job as hosts in my experience so plan to take advantage.

    Theme

The seniors have spoken and it's time to chill out on Tuesday. The theme for the meet is Hawaiian. So get ready to hit the beach and catch those island vibes.

'A' Dual Meet vs. Kenwood -- Thursday, July 14th

We have not received specifics for the meet on Thursday from Kenwood yet. I will send out an email with specifics on the meet when we do. The meets at Kenwood usually start at 6:15PM with a warm up at 5:40PM. Stay tuned for more info as the week progresses.

While Kenwood has not provided us with information yet, our seniors are on top of things. The theme for Thursday's meet will be Christmas in July. So get frosty and wait for some best times in your stockings.

Duckies and Donuts 10&U Meet -- Friday, July 16th

So, with the Squirt Gun Meet getting rained out today, we have worked to create a meet opportunity for our 10&U swimmers. We are going to run a Duckies and Donuts meet on Friday morning.

    Warm Up: 7:30AM -- Start Time: 7:50AM -- End Time: 9:00AM

We will have rubber duckies and duck donuts for the swimmers (and volunteers :). We plan to make this meet as legitimate as we can. We will need some timers and volunteers to make that happen. We will have some sign ups for that available soon. We will not have entry sign ups for this meet. Given the size, all swimmers that show up will have the chance to swim each event in their age group. We are thrilled to be able to offer a meet opportunity to our 10&Under Junior Team and Swim Team members.

Fun Friday: Floats on Floats on Floats

We will again be collecting ourselves at Annandale Swim & Tennis. We will start with a float party in the pool from 11:00-11:45AM. Think caddy day at the Bushwood Country Club pool (ask your parents about Caddyshack); they will let us in with floats, but only for a very specific amount of time. Once we are done with our raft party we will have a root beer float station set up for everyone to enjoy. Sounds like a good day to me.

    From the Deck,

    Coach Ian
