This Week In Swim Volume VI: They're In The Homestretch

Good Evening People of the Pool,

Another full week at hand. Info on our last dual meet, picture day, and the annual SuperNoVa meet can be found below among other things. Starting with our biggest dual meet of the season and ending the week with a meet that is a little different. Given that please make sure to read through everything so you know what is going on day to day this week and beyond.

A short PSA before we get to the weekly breakdown. In our meet against Bethesda on Thursday we did have a few no-show swimmers over the course of the meet. Please make sure that if you sign up for a meet that you are committed to attend. As everyone has noticed we have a very large team, 316 swimmers registered and the largest in the league, and the coaching staff works diligently on the meet lineups each and every week to try and provide the most opportunities possible. When a swimmer signs up to attend, is entered, and then does not show without letting the coaches know beforehand, you are taking away an opportunity from another swimmer on the team who could have swum in their spot. Please be aware of this when you are signing up for meets. On a similar note, please be sure to check the relay entries that are posted in Swimtopia and are posted prior to every meet down on deck. We were forced to scratch multiple relays on Thursday evening due to swimmers who had left the deck during the medley relays or had left early before the freestyle relays at the end of the meet. Again, the coaching staff works very hard to field as many relays as we are capable of doing. Getting those relays together on deck each meet is the most difficult portion of the evening for us. Having to scratch a relay because we are unable to find a swimmer who is entered means that 3-4 other swimmers who were ready to swim a relay do not get that chance. Please make sure before you leave each and every meet that your swimmer is not entered in a relay and your swimmer has communicated to the coaching staff that you are planning to leave that way we are not stuck looking for swimmers who have already left the meet. Thank you very much for your attention to these matters.

    Sunday, July 11th

Entry deadline for the Washington Golf will close tonight at 9:00PM. Please make sure to mark yourself as attending if you plan to be there on Tuesday night.

Tuesday, July 13th -- 'A' Dual Meet vs. Washington Golf & Country Club

Our biggest dual meet of the season. Our closest rival, both geographically and in terms of finishes at Champs the last few years, Washington Golf has won Champs the last 8 years. They save the meet between the two top teams in each division for the last week and here we are. Washington Golf is the only team that can match us in the combination of depth and top-end talent and so it will take everything we have to put up a protest to their dominance over the past 8 years. Get ready for some amazing racing and an action-packed night.

Warm-Ups: Army Navy will warm up from 5:15-5:40PM

Senior Night: As this is our last home meet of the season we will have a short presentation in between the warm ups and the start of the meet. I let you all know just so you can be aware to keep your eyes on the blocks during this pre-meet time if you would like to see our graduating seniors off.

Meet Start: The meet will start at 6:30PM

Food & Drink: As always a bar will be available throughout the swim meet on the Dive Inn deck and the Dive Inn will be open until 7:00PM. Starting at 7:00PM a buffet will be available in the Sports Camp Room. The menu for the buffet:

    • Amish Marconi Salad, German Potato Salad, Caesar Station, Greek Pasta Salad
    • Grilled Corn on the Cob, Burgers, Hotdogs, Fried Chicken
    • S'mores bars, Chocolate Chip Cookies

Wednesday, July 14th -- Picture Day, SuperNoVa Entry Deadline

Picture Day: The team picture will be taken on Wednesday morning at 10:00AM. Please be on the pool deck prior to 9:30AM so that we can start to sort the swimmers and get the picture done as efficiently as possible. As I have said many times this season, we are quite a big crew and getting them all into a picture takes some time. We will begin individual pictures after the team picture has been taken. After the pictures, please join us on the Dive Inn deck for an ice cream social!

If you would like to order team or individual pictures you can order them here: Swim Team Picture Order Form -- use the password ' ansd2021 '

Entry Deadline: The entry deadline for the SuperNoVa will be at noon on Wednesday. Please make sure if you plan to attend that you have made that known via Swimtopia by then.

Afternoon Practice: While there is a home dive meet that will start their warm ups at 4:30PM we will still hold afternoon swim practice from 4-5PM in the long course lanes.

    Thursday, July 15th

Entry Deadline: While we do not have a meet on Thursday it will be the closing deadline for entries to the Divisional Championships next Tuesday. I will be working on this lineup throughout the week and would like to finalize it as early as possible so that we can get our SuperNoVa lineup set on Friday as well.

Friday, July 16th -- SuperNoVa Meet

Who: This meet will act as a championship meet for those who are not participating in Divisionals. Obviously we will make sure to get the Divisionals lineup out prior to Friday morning. This meet is a great opportunity for swimmers to finish off the season with some big swims against Washington Golf and Belle Haven who will not have the chance to swim at Divisionals.

What: Every summer we join up with the other two Virginia teams in CCSDA for a fun meet with a full lineup of events. Instead of the medley relays in the middle we will have wet t-shirt relays and instead of the free relays we will have cumulative kickboard relays at the end of the meet. This is always a fun meet and a great way to end the season for many of our swimmers.

When: Warm ups will start at 5:00PM and the meet will begin at 6:00PM.

Friday Swim & Dive Social: Friday will also be our 3rd team social event. After our Fun Friday practice stick around from 10-11AM for a little friendly competition between the Red, White, and Blue teams.

Looking forward to another great week on the decks of Army Navy.

    From the Deck,

    Coach Ian
