This Week In Swim Volume IV: It's Heating Up!
Hello Again People of the Pool,
Things are starting to heat up both in the pool and out. In the pool we had some seriously fast swims this past week that included a few records during our 328-155 win at Congressional. This is a pool that has hosted quite a few CCSDA Championship meets, so their pool records are no joke:
-The Girls Jr Medley Relay of BK: Scarlett Gray (14), BR: Katie McDonald (12), FL: Ainsley Lehman (8), and FR: Amelia MacIvor (10) broke the pool record at Congressional with a time of 1:12.08
-Amelia MacIvor (10) set Congressional pool records in the 25FR (14.49) and 25BK (17.14). The backstroke record will pass from one Army Navy swimmer to another as Amelia breaks our very own coach Kate Conklin's time from Champs in 2013. The backstroke time also breaks a team record of 17.18 set by Hanani Dona in 2014. Amelia and I will plan some time to chat about new hairstyles this week.
Out of the pool this week looks to be an intensely hot one. Please make sure your swimmer has their water bottle for practice and is drinking plenty of water. With temperatures getting well into the 90s, spending all day at the pool may not be the best course of action. Try to keep cool and find time in the AC throughout the day especially on Tuesday (we've got a meet!).
Before we move on to the day-to-day I have a few quick notes about deck usage during practice time;
1. A reminder that only swimmers should be entering through the Olympic pool gate. Parents can drop off swimmers there but must enter through the main entrance to the pool at all times.
2. The pool deck is not open until the pool opens at 11:00AM each day. Until that time only swimmers and coaches should be on deck. If parents and guardians would like to stay at the pool during practice times they may stay inside the pool house, on the Dive Inn deck or the middle deck. We have to ask that parents and siblings not be on deck prior to 11:00AM. With no guard on duty and the coaches attention on the swimmers who are in the water for practice we have to make sure that all others remain off the deck until the pool opens.
3. Since the front desk is not manned until just prior to the pool opening at 11:00AM there is no way to check in for those families that arrive prior to that time for swim practice. As a request, we would like to ask those who come before 11:00AM to take the moment to go back up to the front desk and check in once the pool opens. This is by no means a necessity, however it does help the pool keep track of and report the correct numbers for pool usage.
Thank you for taking the time to read through these simple requests. Your attention to them through the rest of the summer is greatly appreciated. Now on to the good stuff!
Sunday, June 27th (That's Today!) -- Manor Entry Deadline
Tonight at 9:00PM the entry window for Tuesday's meet against Manor CC will close. Please make sure that you have marked your swimmer's availability for the meet tonight. The coaching staff will make entries based on those who have been made available for the meet. No entries will be accepted after 9PM tonight.
Tuesday, June 29th -- First Home Meet
What: 'A' Division dual meet vs. Manor Country Club. Manor sits at the bottom of 'A' Division, but has managed to be the first team in over a decade to keep their spot in the division more than one season. It's our first chance to host a meet and race in our own pool.
When: We will start warm ups at 5:15PM and the meet will start at 6:10PM. Please make sure that your swimmer is down on deck and ready to go prior to 5:15PM.
Where: At our very own Olympic pool
Why: Because we're good at it. Also, because there will be a bar and buffet starting at 7PM. Manor Meet Buffet Menu and Registration
Thursday, July 1st -- Entry Deadline for Divisional Relays
Please make sure to make your availability known by Thursday at 9:00PM for the A Division Relay Championships taking place Tuesday, July 6th. This is earlier than usual since this lineup has to be turned in earlier than regular dual meets. This will be our smallest roster of the year. I will make sure to post the final relay lineup by the end of the weekend.
Friday, July 2nd -- Friday Fun
There will not be a Swim & Dive social this week after practice, but we will still have Fun Friday swim practice from 8:30-10:00AM for all swimmers (Junior Team and all normal practice times should come at 8:30AM). This past week was pretty fun, come join us and add to the fun this week.
Monday, July 5th -- No Practices
I hope everyone enjoys their 4th of July festivities. To allow for some recovery time the morning after we will not have any swim practices on Monday morning.
And that's the week. Let's get to it.
From the Deck,
Ian
