Every July, the Army Navy Country Club Swim and Dive team participates in an Aquathon benefiting the Yellow Ribbon Fund. YRF has been the club’s charity partner for 12 years. Our community helps raise money for YRF’s critical programs and services. The Yellow Ribbon Fund was founded in 2005 to serve the wounded coming back from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since then, YRF's mission is to provide practical support for wounded, ill and injured service members and their caregivers. It recognizes the importance of keeping families together during the critical recuperation phase, because the presence of family and friends accelerates recovery and rehabilitation and makes for a successful transition back to civilian life.
The YRF provides two critical programs: The Crossroads Program (Housing and Transportation) and the Keystone Program (Family + Caregiver Support Services). The United States Military is protecting our freedom in over 150 countries around the world. Service members continue to come back injured. Many of those previously injured now need additional surgeries and treatment. The immediate and long-term needs of wounded, ill and injured veterans and their families continues to grow.
Last year, the Swim and Dive team raised $8,000…enough money to support one month of hotel rooms, which served the families of 16 wounded service members who required lodging near Walter Reed. Help our team support even more deserving families this summer!
This year's Yellow Ribbon Aquathon benefiting the Yellow Ribbon Fund is Friday,
12 July at 8:00 AM at the Olympic Pool in Arlington. In addition to accepting donations, we will be offering a Yellow Ribbon Aquathon t-shirt and smoothie for $20. Smoothies will also be available for purchase on the day of the Aquathon at the Dive In Deck. If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt/smoothie combo, please click HERE to place an order. Please note that the deadline for ordering shirts is NOON on Tuesday, 9 July.
Regarding donations, swimmers and divers can earn donations by number of dives, laps, by the mile or as a lump sum. Please consider "diving in " to join us as we support YRF. Donor forms are attached to this email. Forms and donation will be collected on the day of the Aquathon. Donations may also be made online by clicking HERE. The deadline for ALL donations is Friday 12 July. We will announce the total raised by the team at the banquet on Friday 2 August.
