The Week in Swim Vol I: And So It Begins
Good Evening Everyone,
We are off and running after a successful Blue-Gold Meet last night. Thank you to all those who volunteered and officiated at the meet and helped us run what was our most efficient Blue-Gold in recent memory. I will try to send these out each week to layout the schedule of events in the week to come and keep from too many emails over the course of each week. Please take the time to read through the whole message to make sure you are kept abreast of what we have going on.
All meets have been posted on the website and are open for you to let the coaches know the availability of your swimmers. Each meet will close 48 hours prior to the meet so that lineups can be set. If you do not respond that your swimmer is 'Attending' or 'Not Attending' we will assume that they are NOT attending and they will not be entered in the meet. Please make sure to meet these deadlines as we have a very large team and this helps to make sure there are no empty lanes in our meets.
Practice Schedule:
Given that all but Arlington and Alexandria City Public Schools are out of school we will begin our morning practice schedule this week. Don't worry, for those of you in Arlington/Alexandria Public we will still be running afternoon practices as scheduled. Junior Team will stay on their afternoon schedule until next week as posted on the website. To recap:
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday:
8:30-10AM: All 13&Over swimmers + 11-12 year-round swimmers
10-11AM: 12&U swimmers + 8&Unders legal in all 4 strokes
11-11:45AM: 8&Under swimmers
4:00-5:00PM: Afternoon practice for all ages
4:30-5:00PM: Junior Team
Thursday and Friday:
No afternoon Swim Team practices as we have a meet on Thursday evening (see below for more info).
ANCC Swag:
If you were not at the Blue-Gold Meet and did not receive your team t-shirt and cap (along with some other goodies) please check in the swim office or ask the coaches about your swag bag. Those that were registered prior to the May 24th deadline will receive their swag first and then we will fulfill the rest of our registrations.
First Meet on Thursday:
Our first meet of the season is on Thursday evening at Belle Haven CC. This will be a 'B' meet for us so you will be able choose events for your swimmer (just as you did for Blue-Gold). Please make sure to only choose events that your swimmer is unlikely to have the chance to swim at our 'A' meets. As stated above, the registration for this meet will close on Tuesday evening.
Who: Meet is open to all swim team members. Only those who do not usually swim a full slate of events at 'A' meets should sign up. Those that missed Blue-Gold may sign up for events and use this as their time trial meet.
What: Duel meet against Belle Haven and Argyle Country Clubs. Full event lineup will be in effect.
Where: Belle Haven Country Club: 6023 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA.
When: Thursday, June 20th. Warm-ups @ 5:45PM, Meet Starts @ 6:30PM
First Friday Social: Muffin Madness
This Friday, June 21st, we will have our first Friday Social event. Practice will consist of some fun relays and the name game so everyone gets to know each other. Muffins and refreshments will be provided by the club starting at 10:30AM.
We are looking forward to a great week and an even better season. It is always a short season that goes by faster than you think. The ball has started rolling and there's no stopping it now!
From the Deck,
Coach Ian
